Climatic and Biotic Controls on Topographic Asymmetry at the Global Scale

چکیده

Insolation differences play a primary role in controlling microclimate and vegetation cover, which together influence the development of topography. Topographic asymmetry (TA), or slope between terrain aspects, has been well documented small-scale, field-based, modeling studies. Here we combine suite environmental (e.g., vegetation, temperature, solar insolation) topographic elevation, drainage network) data to explore driving mechanisms markers TA on global scale. Using novel empirical analysis method, find that (1) steeper higher magnitudes, (2) globally, pole-facing is average than equator-facing terrain, especially mid-latitude, tectonically quiescent, vegetated landscapes, (3) high-elevation low-temperature regions tend have steepened toward equator. We further show there are distinct climate cover across reflected size form fluvial networks. Our work supports argument insolation asymmetries engender local microclimates opposing broadly encourage asymmetric topography range lithologic, tectonic, geomorphic, climatic settings.

Global Changes during the Last 3 Million Years: Climatic Controls and Biotic Responses

INTRODUCTION Research during the last 20 years, has led to a major expansion in knowledge about long-term climatic variability and dynamics. Two developments, in particular, have advanced the theoretical understanding of the major environmental changes that induce continuous changes in ecosystems and in the distributions of plant and animal taxa. The first development was a recognition that the...

the effects of multiple intelligences (focus on musical, visual, and linguistic) and direct instruction on learning grammar: a case on iranian efl students at elementary level

1.0 overview it seems that grammar plays a crucial role in the area of second and foreign language learning and widely has been acknowledged in grammar research. in other words, teaching grammar is an issue which has attracted much attention to itself, and a lot of teachers argue about the existence of grammar in language teaching and learning. this issue will remind us a famous sentence f...

Topographic and ecologic controls on root reinforcement

[1] Shallow landslides are a significant hazard in steep, soil-mantled landscapes. During intense rainfall events, the distribution of shallow landslides is controlled by variations in landscape gradient, the frictional and cohesive properties of soil and roots, and the subsurface hydrologic response. While gradients can be estimated from digital elevation models, information on soil and root p...

The Influence of Horizontal Velocity on Inter-Lower-Limbs Local and Global Asymmetry during Walking

Purpose: Considering the influence of horizontal velocity on many biomechanical characteristics of walking, the purpose of this study was to investigate how inter-lower-limbs local and global asymmetry is influenced by changes in walking speed from slow to fast. Methods: Ground reaction force data and trajectory of attached markers of bilateral lower limbs of 15 right leg-dominant able-bodied ...
